Former Benoni Premier United midfielder July Mahlangu has been forced to join some of his former teammates at Thanda Royal Zulu FC in Durban.
Mahlangu has been on the sidelines since the beginning of the season, claiming that does no longer belong to Royal Zulu after the Rabbits were sold and the new owners moved the team to Durban.
There was speculation Mahlangu would be joining either Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs when he returned from trials in Europe.
However, Amabhubesi manager Thabani Gumede confirms that the player was due to join the team at training this afternoon.
“Yes, it is true that both Tsepo Masilela and July Mahlangu were not part of the deal when we bought Benoni United from Dumsani Ndlovu. But there was an arrangement in place that if both players failed to get overseas deals they would automatically belong to Thanda Royal Zulu FC.
“We are happy that the problems with Mahlangu have been sorted out and I think that those reports that he would join Bucs or Chiefs will now be put to rest.”
Gumede said that Mahlangu’s contract with the team will run up until the end of 2008.
Gumede also confirmed that his team will be visiting both Swaziland and Mozambique in January for friendly games while the African Cup of Nations is in progress.
“We are currently not in a good position on the log and our aim now is to collect at least seven points in our remaining games before the break.
“We did not have proper pre-season training and the Afcon break will give us time to work on many things that we did not attend to do during the pre-season training.”
