Bloemfontein Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco has expressed shock at Cape Town City's unveiling of Lyle Lakay

Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City are set to engage in an off the field tussle over the services of midfielder Lyle Lakay.

City has already unveiled Lakay as their third signing ahead of the 2017/18 season, despite Celtic claiming that the player was still contracted to them for a further season.

Lakay's contract with Siwelele, according to the club management, is due to expire in June next year and now the case could be headed to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC). understands that the 25-year-old had a one-year option on his contract, which was, however, triggered late by the Free State-based club.

According to a source, Celtic were meant to notify the former SuperSport United winger of their intention to extend his contract by 2 February 2017, but only did so in May.

Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco has since told this website of his shock at the Citizens' unveiling of the player in Cape Town last week.

"We were surpised, just like you, to see him being unveiled," says Konco. "We have to wait and see what is going to happen."
