National team coach Stuart Baxter felt his inexperienced side failed to deal with the pressure in front of goal following their quarter-final Cosafa Cup loss to Tanzania.
Bafana Bafana were undone 1-0 by the Taifa Stars in what was a disappointing display by the defending champions, 10 of whom received their national team debuts, yet failed to shine on the bigger stage.
"The result was very disappointing,” Baxter told SuperSport after the game. “I think the game was a poor game, there wasn't really a lot of quality shown by either of the sides.
"We had a few chances, we built up a little pressure in the second half, we failed to take them and then panic sets in and it was a very disappointing evening for everybody.”
Despite creating a number of chances, South Africa failed to truly threaten the opposition goal, with Baxter insisting he does not need to review the replays to understand why.
"It's just poor finishing, panic sets in a little bit,” he said. “I don't need to go to the video to see the missed chances, I think that it's just the question of on the evening when you get the chance, take it, it eases the pressure and then you can play a bit more."
Bafana will now face fellow beaten quarter-finalists Botswana in the plate semi-finals on Tuesday.
