Former Bafana Bafana striker Phil Masinga says it’s great that a host of Under-20 players got selected for the COSAFA Castle Cup, but questions what is going to happen after the tournament.
“It’s great for the coach [Stuart Baxter] that he has picked most of the Under-20 players for the COSAFA Cup,” Masinga tells KickOff.com.
“But what is important is will these players go back to their [club] teams and get game time so that they can get called for the senior team, I don’t think so.”
Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana COSAFA Castle Cup team will face Tanzania today in the quarter-finals at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 17h00.
The Scottish mentor has selected a young squad, and also included a few players from the Amajita squad who did duty at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in South Korea last month.
Amajita defender Tercious Malepe and striker Judas Moseamedi are the only two players that were part of the team that won the COSAFA Castle Cup tournament in 2016.
