Buhle Mkhwanazi labels partnership with Thulani Hlatshwayo as one-of-a-kind

Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi believes his partnership with Thulani Hlatshwayo will go down as one of the best ever at the club.

Mkhwanazi, who picked up the Chairman's Award, and Hlatshwayo, who bagged the Players' Player and Player of the Season accolades at the club's awards evening in midweek, have arguably placed themselves as Wits' best ever defensive duo.

Having wrapped up their first ever topflight league title last season, the two defensive rocks played a vital part in the team's success as they lost just one game in 16, during which they partnered in central defence.

Mkhwanazi was unfortunate to miss out on the final title run-in due to a knee injury, but 'Tyson', alongside Bongani Khumalo, managed to see the team to a historic maiden Absa Premiership championship.

Still set to be out for around four more months, the 27-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back paid tribute to his teammate and skipper, and declared it a unique partnership that the club will never see again.

"I'm really happy for 'Tyson'. To be honest, we have groomed each other so well and we have partnered very well in the past three seasons," Mkhwanazi declared.

"In a few seasons we were unfortunate not to win titles, but this season was a great season. I don't see a partnership like ever coming again to play at Wits.

"We've done so well and as long as we are here, we need to keep it going and continue doing well for ourselves as well as for the club."
