Golden Arrows winger Nduduzo Sibiya is determined to stay grounded as his career gathers momentum.

The 22-year-old recently received his maiden Bafana Bafana call-up for the ongoing COSAFA Castle Cup, while on Monday he was nominated for both the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup young player of the season awards.

Sibiya, who made 16 starts and netted twice for Arrows in 2016/17 as they finished in the top eight for the first time since 2009, is naturally pleased with his progress but is aware he can not afford to get complacent.

"It's like a child that is having a wonderful dream midday," Sibiya tells KickOff.com as he acknowledges the recognition could be short-lived if he loses focus.

"You know in a way I'm so happy but let's just say this is happening now and let me not get over excited. I need to remain humble and keep my head down like this is not happening and respect the game.

"But when I saw the nominees, I was very and absolutely excited. It was great news to hear that I'm part of those who are nominated for the awards because I remember recently watching them on TV. So I didn't envisage so soon that I will part of them as a nominee.

"With that said, this indicates that there is something I did this season as a player but there's a long road ahead."

Sibiya is honoured to be on international duty, regardless of whether Baxter has drafted an experimental squad for the COSAFA Cup with a view to building for the future.

"To be here [in Phokeng] as part of Bafana is big because as I'm here representing my country, people out there have this dream of one day wearing the colours of the national team.

"You can't even see that it is a second Bafana team because the spirit is high. All of us here get along very well because we play for different teams.  But these days we have connected well, and we get along very well and the spirit is very high."

Bafana will start their COSAFA Cup campaign in the quarter-finals against Tanzania at Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Sunday (17h00).
