Match report COSAFA Castle Cup Group B Zimbabwe vs Madagascar

Posted: 28 June 2017 Time: 18:51

Zimbabwe maintained top spot in Group B as Tuesday’s COSAFA Castle Cup clash against Madagascar finished goalless.

A fairly tame start to the game saw chances come few and far between, with Rinjala’s fierce shot off target for second-placed Barea the closest either team came after 21 minutes.

Majarira almost found a way through for the Warriors moments later after being played in behind, although he was only able to drive his shot into the side netting.

The forward went one better a few minutes later after finally drawing a save from Leda, while at the other end, Bourahim was also denied by the goalkeeper as the sides eventually went into the break level pegging.

Zimbabwe came closest to breaking the deadlock shortly after the restart as Karuru came storming in to direct his header goalward, only for the keeper to pull off a sublime save to deny the forward.

Mavunga almost snatched it for the Warriors in the final eight minutes after spotting the keeper off his line and going for the chip, but the gloveman did well to read the situation and backtrack in time to make the save.

The Zimbabweans looked to have won themselves a penalty in the final five minutes as Manuvire appeared to be brought to ground inside the area, but the referee controversially waved away the appeals, much to the fury of the Warriors technical area.
