SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels feels his side can now focus on “bigger things” after successfully defending their Nedbank Cup crown.
A Bradley Grobler brace, with goals from Jeremy Brockie and Kingston Nkhatha helped Stuart Baxter’s troops rewrite the history books by becoming the first team in the Absa Premiership to win back-to-back Nedbank Cup titles following their 4-1 thumping of Orlando Pirates on Saturday, ensuring a successful finish to their domestic season.
“We’ve also made this season a good one by ending off with silverware,” Daniels told KickOff.com. “We were very wary of a big onslaught from Pirates, given what we did to them earlier in the season, but this didn’t happen.
“That was also because we did everything the coach wanted us to do and we were very disciplined. For us it was always about making history with the club, and we did it. This is a very special moment and one of the best victories as we achieved something great as a club.”
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man urged his teammates to take their momentum and form into their continental campaign ahead of their trip to Horoya AC in their next CAF fixture on Saturday.
“Our sights are firmly set on bigger things now,” he said. “We have already qualified for next season’s [CAF] competition and we’re still competing in the current one. We want to leave our footprint in Africa and help the club to more success in the future.”
SuperSport currently lie second in their CAF Confederation Cup group, two points behind leaders Horoya.
