SuperSport United’s Jeremy Brockie relieved following triumphant Nedbank Cup final

SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie admits to being a relieved man following his side’s victorious Nedbank Cup final showdown on Saturday evening.

Matsatsantsa ended up as resounding 4-1 victors over Orlando Pirates on the night, yet at a stage when they were still only 1-0 up, Brockie missed a golden chance to double the lead as his penalty kick was saved by Siyabonga Mpontshane just minutes into the second half.

The New Zealander did however make amends later in the half, but knows his miss could have proven costly if Bucs had capitalised on his error.

''After the penalty miss, Pirates probably thought they had a chance,'' he said.

''Sometimes in games when things like that happen, the opposition can turn around and the team can head up quickly, but we stayed strong; we stayed positive.

''And it was nice to make up for that miss a couple of minutes later,'' he added.

Daniels: We can't rest on our laurels

Brockie’s goal-haul against the Sea Robbers keeps rising: he scored his first goal in the PSL against the Soweto giants in the 2015 Nedbank Cup, while also netting in last year’s Cup final against the very same opponents.

Brockie was also on the scoresheet in November’s 6-0 mauling, but played down the significance of his rising tally against the very same opposition.

''Not only against them, but also in the Nedbank Cup as well,” the current CAF Confederation Cup topscorer quirked. “Look, I keep working hard and hopefully I can continue this success in South Africa.”

Amid interest from rival clubs in the PSL, Brockie’s future at SuperSport remains uncertain, despite the club insisting he is not for sale.
