Jose Garcia disappointed with Baroka release and severance pay

Posted: 22 June 2017 Time: 12:29

Winger Jose Garcia says he is disappointed that Baroka FC have decided to terminate his contract with two years still left to run.

Garcia arrived at Baroka in January having left Highlands Park and signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Limpopo side.

The 27-year-old started nine out of 11 league matches subsequent to joining and also featured in three promotion play-off games as Baroka saved their top flight status.

Garcia says his disappointment stems both from deemed surplus to requirements and that he will be paid only two months wages as severance.

"They [Baroka] just released me, I only played six months and they just told me that they don't need my service," Garcia tells KickOff.com.

"They told me I'm not in the technical team's plans for next season. They haven't given me my settlement on what was left on my contract and they want to give me certain amount of money but that is unfair towards me.

"I never imagined this [would happen] because I was playing most of the games and then all of a sudden you get the letter that your service will not be needed.

"What is so bizarre in all of this, they want to give me two months pay and I haven't responded but I'll speak to them about the settlement but I can't take two months.

"I signed two years and I'm going to get two months? What do they take me for?"

Garcia, who was released along with a bevy of other players, says he's willing to listen to offers from other clubs but his dealings with Baroka have opened his eyes.

"I'm just waiting to see what happens and some people will just call teams and find out if anyone is willing to have me but at the moment there's not anybody specific," he stated.

"I want to play but I don't want to be somewhere where I face the same situation [as at Baroka] because that will be unfair. If any club that is willing to give me what I'm worth then I'll sign because I have my clearance on me."
