Orlando Pirates Kjell Jonevret says he’s leaving nothing to chance in his preparations for Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final, knowing one mistake could determine the outcome.
The Bucs have a chance to end their dismal 2016/17 campaign on a high when they meet defending champions SuperSport United in a repeat of last year’s final, in what will be Jonevret’s first chance at claiming silverware since joining the Soweto giants at the beginning of the year.
The 54-year-old says preparations for the final showdown are going well and is trying to be as thorough as possible in the build up to Saturday, knowing the match’s result could be determined by the smallest detail.
“We have been working very hard with the team,” he is quoted as saying on his club’s website. “This is a final and we know very well that, it’s not current form or league position which will determine who wins on Saturday, but rather who does all the right things on match day.
“Finals are very tricky because sometimes it only takes one chance or one mistake to determine the winner. Our plan is to ensure that we prepare thoroughly enough to give ourselves the best chance of winning on the night.”
Pirates have played two friendlies over the past week to keep up their match fitness ahead of Saturday’s clash, with opponents SuperSport United playing out a goalless draw against TP Mazembe in their CAF Confederation Cup group stage encounter on Tuesday evening.
The Bucs medical team has reported a clean bill of health ahead of Saturday’s match-up, taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Kick-off is set for 20:15.
