Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse says the reception he received on his first day back at their Chloorkop training ground was rather “special” and one to savour.
Arendse returned after a lengthy two and a half month spell on the sidelines with torn ligaments in his left ankle.
Sundowns confirmed that the former Santos player officially joined their training session on Monday for the first time since his injury.
Arendse stated that it felt good to put on a pair of boots again and get a run out on the field.
“The reception I got from the technical team and players was very special and it meant a lot to me,” Arendse tells KickOff.com.
“This shows the type of camaraderie and spirit we have in our squad. It really felt good to be back on the training ground. This motivates me to work harder and to get match fit quicker as well.”
Arendse will play no part in Wednesday’s CAF Champions League clash against Esperance but is hoping to get the nod for their next outing to Ethiopia.
“I’m targeting to be back against on July 1st for our next Champions League clash against St George. I think if we can get three points against Esperance tomorrow that would be a great result but a draw wouldn’t be a train smash,” Arendse concluded.
