KickOff.com can reveal that Free State Stars have exercised the option on midfielder Joseph Okumu’s contract, keeping him at the club for a further two years.

Okumu signed a 12-month deal with Ea Lla Koto at the start of the 2016/17 season but has impressed enough for Stars to take up the option to extend his stay.

"Okumu is coming back to South Africa next season. The club [Free State Stars] has exercised the [two-year] option,” a source close to the club and player tells KickOff.com.

This website can also confirm the Free State club, who today saw head coach Serame Letsoaka step down from the role, have brought in defender Innocent Maela and midfielder Sibusiso Hlubi ahead of the new season.

"The club has already signed [Innocent] Maela from Thanda [Royal Zulu] and Sibusiso Hlubi from Mthatha Bush Bucks,” the source adds.
