SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler has hinted at his plans to freshen up his squad, as he eyes a few younger players ahead of next season.
Tinkler has already identified a few changes needed at his new club following his shock arrival from Cape Town City a week ago.
The 47-year-old tactician has specifically noted that, with a view of building for the future at Matsatsantsa, cover will need to be brought in for the older contigent.
One particular area of concern, as far as age goes, for Tinkler will the defensive department, which features the likes of Clayton Daniels (32), Tefu Mashamaite (32), Morgan Gould (34) and Onismor Bhasera (30) already over the age of 30.
Deputising in central defence is 20-year-old Denwin Farmer as well as 22-year-old Thabo Makhele, who recently completed his loan move to NFD side Stellenbosch, while Keagan Ritchie and Thato Mokeke can cover the left-back slot.
In midfield, Reneilwe Letsholonyane (35) and Thuso Phala (31) will also come into consideration, but the club basically have them both covered with junior international stars Teboho Mokoena and Aubrey Modiba waiting in the wings.
Up front, Kingston Nkatha (31) will have less mileage to torment defenders in seasons to come, but young Fagrie Lakay is already being groomed to lead the attack in the not-so-distant future.
"We need to make changes – a couple. That's only normal," commented Tinkler. "Every club needs to be making changes, looking to the future of the club and certain players – maybe a year of two down the line – might not be there.
"So we need to be looking already who's going to be replacing those players, and if you can bring them [replacements] in earlier, the better."
