Platinum Stars midfielder Gift Links has been motivated by his training experience with Bafana Bafana and now hopes to kick-start his international career.
Links was invited to train with coach Stuart Baxter's squad ahead of their friendly international against Zambia at the Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The 18-year-old winger says the experience has boosted his confidence and motivated him to work even harder at his club ahead of the new season.
“I was at school and I got a call that I have to train with Bafana. When I got to training, coach Baxter and coach Thabo Senong told me to be myself and play the way I normally do," Links told his club's website.
"It felt so great to put on the national team kit even though it was only in training. It was special because I have never played for any national team.
"My confidence is high after that training session. I was nervous in the beginning but the guys told me to take it easy. I was encouraged.
"What I learnt at Bafana is that the sessions are high intensity. The coach wants players to put in the effort. I am now going to work even harder for Dikwena.”
Having come through the Dikwen youth ranks, as well as the Multichoice Diski Challenge side last season, the Vryburg-born attacker has since set his sights on breaking into the junior national team setup.
“Obviously I want to represent my country. There’s 'Vision 2022' and I want to be a part of that. I want to be at the World Cup in 2022," he added.
"But I want to start playing for the [junior] national teams now. I want to grow in the setup in the junior national teams right through to Bafana.”
