Highlands Park have told suitors that midfielder Mothobi Mvala is not for sale

Highlands Park have told suitors that midfielder Mothobi Mvala is not for sale and the club expect him to be with the team next season in the National First Division.

The Lions of North were relegated at the end of their maiden Absa Premiership season but the club intends to keep the majority of their players as they set their sights on an immediate return to the top flight.

Mvala, who was part of the South Africa Under-23 side at the Olympic Games in Brazil last year, started 28 out 30 league games last season and was the club's top scorer with six league goals.

Club director Brad Kaftel says Mvala is not for sale and that those clubs who are interested should know they will not accept any offers.

''It is unlucky for them (those clubs who are interested in him). He's our best player, he's under contract, he's a Highlands boy and he has been with us since the ABC Motsepe League, so he's not going anywhere,'' Kaftel tells KickOff.com

''Please tell them [interested clubs] not to come [for Mvala] because we are not interested [in selling]. He's our player. We're looking to win our [PSL] status back quickly and we're not going to sell our best player. It'd be madness.

''We fully intend to realise all their ambition of winning the NFD and returning straight back in the PSL, so that is how we're balancing it. We'll honour their contracts and they must honour the contracts, too.

“Ultimately, we were very unlucky to go down and we went down by one. They were three teams that finished one point ahead of us and we were bit unfortunate to go down.

''If you don't keep your team in place then you going to be up and down like a yo-yo and is that good for South African football? I don't think so.''

Highlands are also set to hold talks with veteran duo Collins Mbesuma and Surprise Moriri sometime next week.
