Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter is living up to his promise of a youthful line-up as he confirms a new centre-back pairing for the friendly against Zambia.
Following the team's arrival this morning from their momentous win over Nigeria in Uyo this past weekend, Baxter has provided an injury update ahead of their next task against Chipolopolo in Rustenburg.
Bafana take on their COSAFA rivals in an international friendly at the Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday evening, with kick-off at 19h00.
The Brit has confirmed that Erick Mathoho has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury, with captain Thulani Hlatshwayo sitting out to allow for Rivaldo Coetzee to come in alongside Lorenzo Gordinho, who will be making his Bafana debut.
"'Tower' [Mathoho] will be out, partly because he had a concussion before he came on camp and then he also had a smack on his shoulder," Baxter said in his media briefing this afternoon.
"So we'll have a young pairing – the skipper [Hlatshwayo] will be on the bench – I can give you that much. We'll have Lorenzo and Rivaldo.
"It will be an interesting pairing playing against a strong Zambia team. Can they cope? We'll see."
Meanwhile, the likes of Themba Zwane, Keagan Dolly and Tokelo Rantie are also set to miss out after suffering knocks in Saturday's gruelling African Nations Cup qualifier.
