Johannes Kholoane lauds Kaizer Chiefs awards winners Siphiwe Tshabalala, Ramahlwe Mphahlele

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Johannes Kholoane believes Siphiwe Tshabalala was a deserved recipient of the club’s Player of the Season award.

“Shabba” was the big winner during Amakhosi’s glitzy end-of-season ceremony held in Kayalami last Thursday’s, adding the Top Scorer and Goal of the Year gongs to the coveted Player of the Season title.

And while Chiefs endured an uncharacteristically dull campaign which produced no silverware, former club star “Big Boy” Kholoane believes Tshabalala was nevertheless a shining star for the Glamour Boys.

“Siphiwe ‘Shabba’ Tshabalala deservedly won the Player of the Season award,” Kholoane said on Chiefs’ official website.

“Shabba knows that soccer is a game of risks, and that’s why he takes chances, like his two recent marvellous goals against Cape Town City and SuperSport United.”

Kholoane was in attendance with a number of other former club stars, including Jackie Masike, Lucky Stylianou, Vusi ‘Computer’ Lamola, Sylvester ‘City’ Kole, Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa, William ‘Cool Cat’ Shongwe, Wellington Manyathi, Abel ‘Chacklas’ Shongwe and Cyril ‘Skhokho’ Nzama.

“Before the awards evening started, I spoke with a few other legends and most predicted that Shabba would win that award,” Kholoane stated.

The other big winner on the night was Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who was named Players’ Player of the Season, as well as the Online Player of the Season, earning plenty of praise from Kholoane, too.

“He [Mphahlele] is a workaholic. He has so much energy, going up and down the flank for 90 minutes, delivering telling crosses into the opponent’s box. Rama always makes a difference when he plays," he said.

“When your teammates select you as their best player of the season, then there is no emotion… It means that Rama’s award was deserved."
