Ramahlwe Mphahlele: Bittersweet to receive Kaizer Chiefs awards

Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele had mixed emotions after claiming numerous honours at Amakhosi's annual awards ceremony on Thursday.
'Rama', an off-season signing from Mamelodi Sundowns, won the coveted Players' Player of the Season accolade, the KC Online Player and Fair Play prizes, while he also walked away with Player of the Month gongs for November and May.
However, the 27-year-old is mindful the Soweto giants have little cause to celebrate following a second successive year without silverware under coach Steve Komphela.
“It is bittersweet to win an individual award when the team didn’t win any silverware,” Rama is quoted as saying by his club's official website.
“However, you can’t take away individual efforts. We worked tirelessly as a team, but individual performances are part and parcel of the game.
“I’m grateful to receive these accolades. These rewards will motivate the rest of the team to work harder going into next season.”
The ex-Downs skipper added: “When I came to Chiefs, I knew I had only one choice and that’s to win. I knew I was joining a huge club, with great history and pedigree.
“With these rewards I am challenged to work even harder to improve my performances and contribute to the team’s goal of winning trophies next season.”
