SuperSport United midfielder Thuso Phala has braced himself for a tough clash with TP Mazembe but remains hopeful of returning from Lubumbashi with a positive result.
Matsatsantsa travel to Lubumbashi to face off with the Ravens in their top of the table CAF Confederation Cup group D clash on Sunday afternoon.
The Tshwane outfit current lead the standings on goal difference, as both side sit on four points after two rounds of fixtures.
Phala, who is aware of the threat of the Congolese giants, has maintained confidence in his side's approach and believes anything is possible on the field of play.
“We have been hard at work in preparation for this match. We will not be changing anything in terms of our style of play as that is what has gotten us here as a club,” Phala told the CAFOnline website.
“They [Mazembe] obviously have more continental experience than us but on the day, it will be eleven against eleven and anything is possible.”
Despite boasting the likes of Solomon Asante, Rainford Kalaba and Adama Traore, the 31-year-old winger argues that it will be more important to try to contain Mazembe as a team rather than focussing on individuals.
“Every player wants to impress in such competitions and you therefore can’t plan your game according to individual players," he added.
"We are preparing for TP Mazembe and not individual players. In fact, what we noticed from their last two matches is that they can be very dangerous on the wings with their full backs so it is important that we close them down early.”
Meanwhile, the Bafana Bafana international has placed the goodwill of his country ahead of his club as they prepare to bid farewell to coach Stuart Baxter later this month.
“Nothing has changed for us as players. We are still hungry and proud to play for the club and actually happy for the coach. It is obviously sad having to let him go but it is for the benefit of the country and we wish him all the best,” concluded Phala.
