Deon Hotto promises Bloemfontein Celtic fans improvement next season

Bloemfontein Celtic winger Deon Hotto feels his side “failed” this season, but has promised fans that they will do better next term.

An inconsistent campaign saw Phunya Sele Sele living dangerously above the relegation zone over the latter part of the season, yet eventually finished 12th, just two points above bottom-placed Highlands Park.

And Hotto, who joined form Golden Arrows at the start of the campaign, knows his side failed in reaching their targets this season, and only have themselves to blame, having scored just 16 league goals in 30 games the entire season.

“We failed on the mandate of the team and our vision as players,” he told his club’s website. “Under both coach Serame [Letsoaka] and [Lehlohonolo] Seema we continued producing a scintillating style of play, inventively harassing opponents with alarming speed and creating chances, but converting opportunities was our major downfall.

“Look at the games we have lost or drawn, most of the time the stats will show us leading enormously but still end up donating points. We lost points at crucial moments and that dragged us into the relegation zone.”

Hotto, who featured in all his side’s league games this season, contributing two assists, relayed his gratitude to the club’s fans for their unending support, and promised an improved showing in the 2017/18 campaign.

“Words cannot be adequate enough to describe them; thinking of how they sing irrespective of the score line just forces us to work with vigour,” he said. “Hence it is difficult greeting them after losing a game especially at home, how do you do that? We are sorry for the pain we have caused them this season and promise to amend with better displays in the next season.”
