Moeketsi Sekola's agent Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi is set to meet with Highlands Park management to discuss the release of his client following the club's relegation.
Sekola signed a pre-contract with the Lions of the North in January this year, with the aim of joining from Free State Stars on a free transfer ahead of next season.
However, with Highlands now relegated from the Absa Premiership after finishing in 16th place on the standings, the player's camp is trying to negotiate a release of the striker.
"We are going to be talking to Highlands Park tomorrow so they can release him [Sekola]," Rush Hour Sports Management's Mulovhedzi tells KickOff.com.
"The problem is that the player signed for a R100,000 salary, with a 10 percent increase every season, plus a R300,000 signing-on-fee. That means he was going to get R10 000 increase every season.
"But now the problem is that the club is going to play NFD football next season which will be a mountain to climb for the club to afford that, [because] we all know the grant there is not that much."
Meanwhile, a source close to newly crowned champions Bidvest Wits says a deal between the club and the player is almost done.
However, Mulovhedzi has denied any knowledge of that.
"Is it? At this stage I haven't received any offers, but I will be not surprised if there is interest in the boy. If there's interest from any team we will discuss it," he added.
"Remember, not so long ago, he was the top goalscorer in the PSL."
