Free State Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena has expressed his gratitude to the club's supporters following a difficult season in the Absa Premiership.
Ea Lla Koto survived a nasty relegation by the skin of their teeth as they earned a crucial point against Chippa United on the final day of the season to finish in 14th place – edging 15th-placed Baroka on goal difference.
Having come through a period of uncertainty at the beginning of the season when the club almost sold its PSL status, Mokoena has paid homage to their supporters for sticking by them throughout a turbulent campaign.
“If one looks at the past matches at home, results were not coming but one has to commend them [supporters] – they really came in their numbers and the stadium was full and you could see they were really cheering their team,” Mokoena told his club's website.
“We can only be grateful that they continue to support us though it was tough, we need to repay them, we appreciate their support. We will have a meeting with our supporters as to articulate our reasons why we wanted to sell the team.”
Meanwhile, Mokoena added that the club hope to continue bringing some of their home matches to the James Motlatsi Stadium, pending reviewal and a new agreement with the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality in the Free State.
“We will review the contract with the City of Matlosane before we get into another contract for next season, was it worth our while and did it serve the purpose or not, but we will make a further announcement now during the pre-season,” he concluded.
