Bongani Zungu scored in the Portuguese Cup final, but his Vitoria side lost to Benfica

Posted: 28 May 2017 Time: 20:31

Bongani Zungu scored for Vitoria Guimaraes but could not help his side from slipping to a 2-1 loss to Benfica in the Portuguese Cup final on Sunday.

Zungu found the back of the net with 12 minutes remaining with a header from a corner, but despite his personal moment of triumph, suffered the disappointment of missing out on silverware.

It caps an excellent second half of the season for the former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, who was this week recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad for the African Nations Cup qualifier in Nigeria on June 10.

There has been speculation that this might be his final game for Vitoria, with Benfica said to be one of the teams interested in his services.

They will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, though should he stay with Vitoria he will play in the Europa League after helping the club to fourth in the Portuguese league this campaign.
