Baroka FC earned their place in the PSL promotion-relegation playoffs as they carved out a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town, who miss out on the top eight.
Ajax started the brighter of the sides and managed the first shot in anger on 11 minutes, although Mosa Lebusa was unable to keep his effort down and lashed one over the crossbar.
The hosts continued doing most of the pressing and Bantu Mzwakali produced a dangerous run to bear down on goal, although the defenders were alert to the challenge and a last-ditch sliding tackle robbed the attacker of possession.
Ajax’s task was made infinitely more difficult four minutes before half-time, though, as they found themselves reduced to 10 men as Roscoe Pietersen was shown a straight red card.
Ajax continued bossing the game after the break but both Travis Graham and Ndiviwe Mdabuka were unable to find the target with their respective shots.
However, it was Baroka who would eventually break the deadlock, with Letladi Madubanya rising highest to meet a delivery before sending his header into the back of the net.
Madubanya then went from hero to villain as he picked up two bookings in the space of seven minutes to eventually be shown a red card as both teams found themselves playing with only 10 men.
The hosts came close to a leveller through Nathan Paulse, only for the hitman to fire wide of the mark, while Thabo Mosadi’s shot moment later brought an excellent save from Oscarine Masuluke.
Prince Nxumalo looked destined to deny Baroka in the final 11 minutes but somehow the visitors managed to clear off the line when it looked for all the world to be a goal.
The result lifted Baroka off the foot of the table at Highlands Park's expense, while Ajax slip to 10th, replaced by Golden Arrows.
