Matome Mathiane hopes to avenge Golden Arrows Nedbank Cup exit in final Absa Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates

Golden Arrows captain Matome Mathiane hopes for revenge against Orlando Pirates when the two sides meet at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at 3pm.

Last weekend Pirates edged Arrows 1-0 in their Nedbank Cup semi-final, but Mathiane is positive that Abafana Bes'thende will avenge their cup exit in today's league encounter.

“It won’t be an easy game for us,” Mathiane tells “Especially that they beat us three times [3-1 in Absa Premiership; 2-1 in Telkom Knockout last 16; 1-0 in Nedbnak Cup semi-final], so I think it’s a game that we need to win.

“We are well motivated and it’s a revenge game for us, so we just need to win the game."

The Kwa-Zulu Natal side could still make it into the top eight with a victory over the Buccaneers, provided Ajax Cape Town drop points against relegation-threatened Baroka FC or Maritzburg United lose at home to Bloemfontein Celtic.

“We haven’t given up [on making the top eight]. Ajax against Baroka won’t be an easy game. It’s either they draw [or lose], but I think we just need to win the game [against Pirates],” Mathiane adds.
