Italy Under-20 coach Alberigo Evani believes Wiseman Meyiwa has what it takes to play in Serie A

Amajita may be having a difficult time in South Korea in the FIFA U20 World Cup, but youngsters like Wiseman Meyiwa have garnered international praise.

The SA Under-20 anchor midfielder has earned rave reviews from Italy coach Alberigo Evani who believes the dynamic Kaizer Chiefs player is destined for bigger things in football.

Evani is an accomplished youth coach in Italy and has been coaching the Italian junior national teams for the past seven years.

Speaking after his team had beaten Amajita 2-0 in the FIFA U20 World Cup, Evani believes that Meyiwa is good enough to play for teams in Europe, particularly in the Serie A.

Meyiwa was substituted in the 60th minute of Wednesday's game, coming off for Teboho Mokoena and Evani says the 17-year-old, who sits in front of the defense, covered the centre-backs very well.

“The great worry for us was the South African central defender [Meyiwa]… and our tactic was to block him and let him throw the ball forward; and we were scared about him hitting the ball with the head, said Evani.

“The central defenders in general are not as skilled as your number six [Meyiwa] was. South Africa impressed me during their match against Japan; the team has very interesting players and I guess their number six might play for some team in Europe one day."

Meyiwa is considered as part of the spine of the team that is competing in South Korea. Even Amajita head coach Thabo Senong reserved praise for Meyiwa, who hails from Pietermaritzburg and has just signed a three year professional contract with Kaizer Chiefs.
