Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret feels he has seen enough positives to build on going forward and drops hints that he already knows what he will need for next season.
The Bucs' campaign has been enveloped in mediocrity with their proud standing as the only club to have never finished outside the top eight in the PSL era now set to come to an end this season.
What provides solace is that they still have a chance of ending the season with silverware having reached the Nedbank Cup final to be played on June 24 with SuperSport United the opponents.
Though a season that was meant to embrace the club’s 80th anniversary celebrations hasn’t lived up to expectations Jonevret is buoyant about the future.
“I think we already have a lot of things to build on for the future,” says the Swede who only took over three months ago with much of the damage already done.
“There are a lot positive things to build on, we just have to continue that way and it would be nice with the pre-season to start all over again but of course it is going to be much easier for everyone, the club and the supporters if we can end this season on a positive by winning the cup.
"At the same time there are a lot of things that we have seen and the players know a little bit more about how we want it to look out there even though we haven’t had the results.
“I think we know what we need and what is good right now. We haven’t sat down and spoken about it with the administrators as yet. I don’t know what is going to happen.
"We know pretty well what we have and what we need. It has been a tough season for us and it would be the same for if you had to have three different bosses the same season."
Through all the struggles that have sunk Pirates, Jonevret remains positive.
“We do a lot of positive things here [at training] but the mirror of the health of the team is the results and I understand that. Normally the table don’t lie," he admits.
"With the number of draws that we have had this season if we win four or five of them then we are suddenly up there close to the top five so it is small margins. But I think the club has to sit down now because this is not the first season that results have gone down a little bit.
“So I think it is important now that the coaches and the organisation at the club have to sit down and discuss what has been wrong for the last few seasons. It is time to do something about it, think about what we have done good and what we can do better and then start from there because of course a club like Orlando Pirates should be up there. Right now it is sad to say because the table just doesn’t lie. Off course I want to be involved in the success of the club."
