Amajita attacking sensation Kobamelo Kodisang is one the players that have benefitted immensely from the SAFA development programmes in the last three years.
“At the U17 World Cup, I was not that mature, but now at U20 I can say I’ve matured a lot and my play has improved,” the young Amajita star says.
At the FIFA U20 World Cup, a lot is expected from him as Amajita prepare for two crucial encounters to secure passage to the knockout stages of the tournament.
Kodisang is calling for a more pragmatic approach against their next opponents, Italy. This, he argues, requires a level of maturity and experience from him and his teammates.
He added: “We have to rise to the occasion and shine in our next two games. Technically Italy might be better than us, but we (Amajita) are definitely more skilful than them. Our secret is to just get in there and make use and convert whatever chances we get. Ball possession won’t win us the game, only scoring will.”
Kodisang was spotted in the Burger King Inter-provincial U17 tournament representing North West. His performance earned him a spot in the SA U17 squad that travelled to Chile for the FIFA U17 World Cup. Now he is living his dream as a vital member SA U20 squad in South Korea at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
He plays his domestic football for Platinum Stars and feels fortunate to be at a team like Dikwena under head coach Cavin Johnson who believes in youngsters. In two seasons now, Kodisang has played a total of 25 matches in all competitions in the PSL for Stars.
“Playing in the PSL gave me confidence and prepared me to play against best,” added Kodisang.
In the last three years, the youngster has been playing against all types of countries from different continents around the world and he knows that their next opponents Italy will be difficult to handle tomorrow.
Italy, like South Africa, also lost their opening game to South American champions Uruguay 1-0 and Kodisang expects a tough game as both teams need to win in order to stand a good chance of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
Amajita and Italy game will kick-off at 17:00 [10h00 SA time] at the Suwon World Cup stadium in Suwon.
