Amajita coach Thabo Senong ready to unleash Reeve Frosler, Teboho Mokoena at Fifa Under-20 World Cup

Thabo Senong’s Amajita squad has received a major boost with the addition of two young PSL stars who the coach is itching to unleash.

Regular first team players Reeve Frosler of Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United’s Teboho Mokoena arrived on Saturday and Monday respectively, as they look to provide impetus to a disappointed South African side who spurned a number of chances in their 2-1 loss to Japan.

Despite their late arrival, Senong is hoping Frosler and Mokoena will settle in quickly and be ready for Amajita’s next game.

“Frosler is adapting very well,” Senong said. “He managed to sleep about six hours, which is good – my biggest concern was that he would not be able to sleep for long as he battles the huge time difference, but he looks okay and is available for selection. I also hope that Teboho, who has just joined us, is also available but we will see how things go with him.”

Amajita were put through their paces in a light training session on Monday, and despite admitting the boys were left bitter after their opening day loss, Senong knows there’s still lots to play for.

“We needed to refresh them a bit, obviously they are a bit stressed after the loss on Sunday but we have to keep going and make sure they are fresh for the next match,” he said. “We are in the competition phase now, so it’s always important to deal with the psychological part of the players – we need to motivate them all the time. We are disappointed with the result against Japan but we are not discouraged, we still have six points to fight for.”

Amajita meet Italy – who lost 1-0 to Uruguay on Sunday – in their second group stage encounter on Wednesday at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon.

Kick-off is scheduled for 10h00 South African time.
