Kermit Erasmus on the scoresheet in Lens win as they miss out on promotion

Posted: 19 May 2017 Time: 22:52

A goal in the sixth minute of injury-time at the end of a game elsewhere in France broke the heart of Bafana Bafana striker Kermit Erasmus on Friday.

This was despite the former Orlando Pirates man getting on the scoresheet for French Ligue 2 side Lens.

Erasmus netted after seven minutes as his side defeated Niort 3-1 and appeared on course to qualify for the promotion play-offs.

But a 96th minute winner by Emmanuel Bourgaud for Amiens saw them defeate Reims 2-1 and shoot above Lens, who will now spend another season in Ligue 2.

Erasmus in on loan at the side from Stade Rennes in Ligue 1, and there had been talk that the move could be made permanent, but whether he will want to spend another season in Ligue 2 remains to be seen.

Rennes are set for a mid-table finish despite at one stage looking good for the UEFA Europa League next season.
