Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has commended Bidvest Wits following their Absa Premiership title triumph, while reserving praise for Gavin Hunt and Daine Klate.
Wits clinched their maiden top flight championship after a 96-year wait, as Hunt's side saw off challengers, including holders Mamelodi Sundowns, surprise packages Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Chiefs in the final run-in.
“Congratulations to the Clever Boys,” Motaung told his club's website. “Well done. They fought a good fight from the beginning, leading to this historic achievement.
“This is indeed a momentous occasion in the history of the league and the club itself. It is a remarkable moment, because Wits never won the league since their formation in 1921.
“Compliments to their Chairman, Brian Joffe, and his management team for leading the Clever Boys to this immense glory.”
'Chincha Guluva' also lauded the achievements of Hunt, who equalled the record of four Absa Premiership titles alongside the likes of Ted Dumitru and Gordon Igesund, as well as Klate, who made history by bagging a record-sixth league winners medal.
“Coach Gavin Hunt and his technical team have done a marvellous job throughout the season to form Wits into a force to be reckoned with," added Motaung.
“I also wish to congratulate Gavin for scooping his fourth league title. That’s a fantastic achievement. I also shouldn’t forget to mention Daine Klate for collecting his sixth league championship medal."
The Amakhosi boss, who has seen his club lift the coveted prize twice in the last five seasons, has promised to welcome the newly crowned champions to the FNB Stadium with grace and diginity for their final fixture next Saturday.
“We will receive Wits at our last game of the 2016/2017 season. We will be gracious hosts and honour the occasion with dignity,” he concluded.
