Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he will consider playing his Multichoice Diski Challenge team in the various domestic cups next season.
This, after the Brazilians relinquished the Absa Premiership title to Bidvest Wits on Wednesday following their 2-2 draw against Maritzburg United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
'Jingles' believes the club’s heavy schedule due to both domestic and CAF competition was their main undoing and says next term they will not be investing much first-team effort in the likes of the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout campaigns.
"Maybe next year, when it [the fixture pile-up] goes like this again we are going to compromise local cups in the [PSL] and leave them, focus on [CAF] Champions League and the [domestic] league and leave all this Telkom [Knockout] and all that,” said Mosimane.
“All these don’t help. Remember, when we are playing the game against Maritzburg United, it cost us in Maritzburg. I had to play the likes of Julies and everybody in the first game against Marzitburg because I had a game in the semi-finals of the Champions League against the mighty Zesco. Maybe take this Telkom [Knockout] and all this and maybe give it to [Sundowns’] MDC team,” he added.
Mosimane believes his team lost the league when they were forced to play four games in eight days, including the clash against Chippa United which was played over two days following a power failure in Tshwane.
"The title was lost when we played on Saturday, we played Tuesday, we played Wednesday and we played Friday. We played four games in eight days and that’s where the title [was lost],” he said.
"You remember when we played Tuesday and Wednesday against Chippa and played on Friday against Cape Town City, a well-rested team in the league. That's where the title was lost. We got two points out of 15, that’s where the title was lost,” Mosimane added.
