Stellenbosch FC hitman Mame Niang confident ahead of promotion play-offs

Senegalese striker Mame Niang is confident that Stellenbosch will gain promotion to the PSL next season via the play-offs.

The fledgling franchise finished third in the National First Division after a dramatic final day of action, beating Santos 1-0 to leapfrog AmaZulu.

Stellenbosch have been pitted against the as yet undetermined 15th place side in the Absa Premiership in their opening play-off fixture on 31 May before traveling to Limpopo for their next match against Black Leopards on 3 June.

"I dont think any team will go into a competition without being confident of winning. We no exception," said Niang.

"We are ready. We have done well, we have worked hard and are enjoying a good run of form. For now we are waiting for the team to be determined from the PSL.

"Our focus is on training hard and keeping our heads up and ready for the next match."

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker attributed his team's success this season to hard work.

"I  believe hard work was the key to our success. We worked hard for each other," he said.

Niang joined the Cape Town based side on a short term contract and says he will only decide his future in football after the promotion play-offs.
