Darren Keet says Bidvest Wits are calm in home stretch of title race

The penultimate round of matches in the PSL could close off the title race if Bidvest Wits collect maximum points at home on Wednesday and Mamelodi Sundowns fail to do the same in Tshwane.
Wits face Polokwane City at Bidvest Stadium well aware that they might be popping the champagne on the same night while Sundowns have to deal with Maritzburg United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Both games – just like all the other six matches on this full fixture Wednesday – kick off at 19h30.
If Wits win against Polokwane and Sundowns fail to take all the points against Maritzburg then it is over and The Clever Boys will take home their first league title.
Wits have never won the league despite spending all but just one year in topflight football since the start of the NSL back in 1985.
“There are no emotions that we have to deal with for us as the squad because most of the players have been in this kind of situation before,” Darren Keet tells KickOff.com.
“All that we have to do right now is continue doing what we have been doing all along which is what has gotten us this far. We just need to keep the same approach without making any changes. Wits has now built itself to being a club that gets itself into these kind of situations. We are not worried about other teams because all we need to do is perform and win our games. It is in our hands,” says Keet.
The Wits keeper adds that being in the mix for trophies is the reason why he came back to South Africa after spending time in Belgium.
“When I came back I made it known that I am a player with ambitions and want to play for a club with ambitions. So far we have won the MTN8 but ultimately the league is the main one,” he adds.
Helping the Wits cause is Gavint Hunt who will be keen on a fourth title that will match the record of Gordon Igesund in the PSL era.
However, if Wits win and Sundowns also win then this title race will go to the last day on May 27 with The Clever Boys away at Kaizer Chiefs while The Brazilians will make the short trip to Highlands Park.
