Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret admits he remains unsure as to how many players will be offloaded, or depart, at the end of the season.
So underwhelming has been the Soweto giants’ campaign that, with two games to go, they are in danger of relinquishing their record of finishing inside the top eight in every season since the PSL’s inception in 1996 as they currently lie ninth on the table.
Swedish coach Jonevret, who was only appointed to the role earlier this year, has tried to bring stability in what is the club's 80th anniversary season, which could still end in glory as they have a Nedbank Cup semi-final date against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.
However, a mass overhaul of playing staff is still expected in the off-season, although the coach is preferring to focus on the football for now.
KickOff.com reported in April that right-back Thembela Sikhakhane, who joined Pirates during the season from Arrows, is on of those set to be offloaded, having not played since Jonevret’s appointment in February.
Other players whose futures are very much in doubt are Mahlatse Makhudubela, Thabiso Kutumela, Donald Mokondelela, Sello Japhta [both on loan to Chippa United], Nkosinathi Mthiyane [on loan to Golden Arrows], Mwape Musonda [on loan to Black Leopards] and Bernard Morrison.
"I haven't talked so much about that [player transfers) but of course when you are in this situation you've got ideas already from the beginning - it is possible to do this thing," Jonevret said.
"But I can't say I'm looking forward to it but it should be when the season is over. Hopefully, it'll end in the positive way.
"It should be really nice to start the new pre-season and I'm looking forward to that but right now my focus is to try to play as well as possible in these games in the league and do everything we can to extend this season by an extra month for the [Nedbank] Cup final.
"But of course we've got ideas but we'll discuss that with the club and we'll wait and see.”
