Orlando Pirates coach Kjell Jonevret is unsure if their upcoming Nedbank Cup semi-final is distracting his players in their bid to qualify for the MTN8.
Pirates, who drew 0-0 with Bloemfontein Celtic last night, risk losing their record of being the only club to finish in the top-eight in every season since the PSL's inception in 1996.
The Buccaneers are just behind eighth-placed Ajax Cape Town on goal difference with two league matches left, but Ajax have a match in hand as do 10th-placed Golden Arrows (level with Bucs on 32 points).
Jonevret's charges will battle Arrows for a place in the Nedbank Cup final on May 21 at Princess Magogo Stadium.
"Focus, I don't know if it's like that, I don't know. But at the same time we've to try to stay in the top eight, be in the top eight," said Jonevret.
"For that reason, we need to win the next two games more than those three that we had.
"Of course when you meet people out they are talking about the Nedbank Cup. When you meet supporters, when you talk to people they talk about the Nedbank Cup. It could be [that] but I think we showed that we are really interested to win this [game against Celtic] also.
"But of course in a week's time everything is going to be around Nedbank Cup, but it is important to try to win more games in the league also."
Meanwhile, Jonevret, who was a striker during his playing days in Sweden, felt the pitch at Dr Molemela Stadium was not conducive to good football.
"It was a terrible pitch and it was not so easy to play there. I think both teams tried to play anyway and it was an open game. It was not a nil-nil game, it was pretty open," added Jonevret.
"I'm happy for the way we tried to play and they had a shot that came off the post in the first half, but otherwise we had five or six really good chances. I'm sure, when I see this game again I'm going to think we deserved to win it."
The Sea Robbers next host Ajax in the league at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
