Platinum Stars goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela said the team have confidence heading into tonight's clash with Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium (19h30).
Dikwena eased their relegation concerns in the past 10 days with two wins and a draw, most recently beating fellow strugglers Highlands Park 1-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.
Mzimela, who are minus suspended defender Sphamandla Mlilo, expects a battle from top-eight contenders Maritzburg but feels his side can prevail on the road.
"The game will be tight," Mzimela told his club's website. "At this time of the season everyone is fighting for points. Others are fighting for top eight, relegation, championship and some are fighting for contracts. There are a lot of things making the game to be difficult. We have to keep shape at the back and use the chances that we get.
"We are going to the game confident because we got three points against Highlands Park. It’s going to be a tough game but we will compete. We are in the right space in terms of confidence. It was an important game for us to win because we needed maximum points so that we can move away from relegation. We played well keeping the shape at the back and keeping a clean sheet. It’s good that we won.”
Mzimela also thanked Stars' fans for their support during a trying campaign, which could yet end on a high note as they start their CAF Confederation Cup group campaign against MC Alger on Saturday.
“We have to thank our supporters for coming to rally behind us. We were surprised to see some of our supporters in Cape Town. Their support means a lot to us. We are grateful. We just have to hold on for the few matches and things will be better.”
