Chippa United prioritise PSL survival over Nedbank Cup ambitions

Chippa United caretaker coach Mbuyiselo Sambu admits retaining their PSL status overrides their desire to win the Nedbank Cup.
The Chilli Boys have sunk into the relegation mud and sit just two points from the bottom with four games to play, yet they have also reached the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup for the first time.
Their bid to avoid the drop takes them to the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdatsane on Saturday afternoon where they will host Ajax Cape Town. However, they will also have to balance all of their league commitments with with the Nedbank Cup, for which they play SuperSport United in a fortnight at the same venue.
“We do have players that are capable to make sure that we get the right balance between the two but now the first priority is the league,” says Sambu.
“But then also we are not going to go out there and just say we will give it away to SuperSport just like that. We are going to make sure that we plan very well and use the players that we have in a way that we get the results that we want, because like I am saying we do have the players that are capable of making sure that we also progress to the final. We cannot go out there and just say 'let us just play for the sake of playing’. We are committed to the Nedbank but for now the first priority is the league and making sure that we get out of that situation before we even play the last game of the season. So we are working hard to make sure that we get that right,” explains Sambu.
Chippa will be minus the suspended duo of Thamsanqa Sangweni and Justice Chabalala for the game against Ajax.
