Man of the match Ben Motshwari said collecting maximum points was all that mattered from Bidvest Wits' 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates last night.

Wits prevailed courtesy of Cuthbert Malajila's 56th minute strike at Bidvest Stadium, and consequently pulled three points clear of closet rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at the summit with four games left.

Champions Sundowns were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Platinum Stars at Lucas Moripe Stadium on the same evening.

Motshwari told SuperSport TV: "It was a tough game. You know we needed these points, especially after the game we just played against Sundowns [1-0 victory on Monday]. We are having difficult fixtures you know, we just want to win the next match that's coming on.

"We just have to grind, even it it has to be 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, it doesn't matter, as long as we continue collecting those points."

The Students next host top-eight contenders Maritzburg United on Sunday (15h00).
