SuperSport and Celtic play to stalemate

SuperSport United failed to crack the defence of Bloemfontein Celtic as the sides played out their second goalless draw of the season at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.
A lengthy feeling out process from both sides made for a frustratingly slow start to their Absa Premiership encounter with no real chances of consequence in the opening 20 minutes.
Just before the midway point of the half Thabo Mnyamane was brought down not far from the area but the ensuing free-kick, which he took himself, was straight down the throat of Patrick Tignyemb.
The Matsatsantsa forward had an even better chance minutes later as he powered past the opposition defence only to unleash his vicious shot straight at the veteran stopper when through on goal.
Lyle Lakay was proving a handful down the right hand flank for Celtic and he turned Keegan Ritchie inside out before drilling in a low cross that Ayanda Dlamini was unable to turn home under intense pressure.
After the break Thuso Phala was presented with a decent chance as he took the ball down well in the box before steering his effort wide of the mark.
At the other end Lakay shifted the ball inside to create space for a shot which ended up being tame and was easily held by Ronwen Williams.
Ten minutes later Williams was called into action once again as the ball broke nicely to Dlamini but his effort did little to worry the man between the sticks.
With less than a quarter hour remaining Tignyemb showed sharp reactions to get off his line and beat away Mnyamane's square ball as SuperSport United attackers lurked inside the area.
As the game entered the final 10 minutes the hosts had chance upon chance but were unable to find a way past the plucky Celtic defence.
Reneilwe Letsholonyane was the first to have a go and when his attempt was turned behind for a corner the resultant set-piece caused pandemonium in the box with Morgan Gould eventually providing a backheel set-up only for Clayton Daniels' shot to be headed off the line.
The pressure continued and Mnyamane scuffed his effort but it still troubled Tignyemb who was forced to save acrobatically with his legs.
