Moneeb Josephs says Bidvest Wits face the biggest game of their lives against Orlando Pirates

Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs says Thursday’s match against Orlando Pirates will be ‘the biggest of their lives’ as they look to maintain the Absa Premiership lead.

Wits laboured to a crucial win over Mamelodi Sundowns yesterday to move top of the standings with five matches left to play for both clubs, who now occupy the top seats in the standings.

Having faced Sundowns, SuperSport United and Cape Town City in the last two weeks, Wits next have Pirates this week, with an encounter against fellow title rivals Kaizer Chiefs also coming up later on in the month.

“The biggest game of my life is coming up on Thursday, which is also the biggest game of our lives,” declared the veteran goalkeeper.

“We just have to remain calm because this [title race] is still anybody’s game but as long as we focus on our game and do what we have to do and pick up the points that we need to be picking up, we stand a good chance because it is still in our hands. We are not depending on anybody so the next game is the biggest game of our lives.

“These were three very important points [against Sundowns] and Thursday is an even bigger game again with Orlando Pirates coming at a time when they have been on a good run as well. It is going to be another humdinger but these are the games you want to be playing. You want to be playing the big teams which is a bit easier motivation-wise and tactically it is better because you know their shape and the coach can study it. So it will be a big game on Thursday and we are looking forward to that,” he noted.

Josephs argues that the destiny of the title has actually always been in their hands since both Wits and Sundowns had the cushion of two games in hand over the other title chasers.

“It has been in our hands since the beginning when we had those two games in hand. We were shaken up a bit when we lost to SuperSport but it is still in our control. So like I say all we need to do is focus on what we need to do and that is the biggest game on Thursday that we have to face. Orlando Pirates is also on a good run so that is the three points that is important and nothing else. We just have to do what we have to do and see where it takes us at the end of the season,” said Josephs.
