Orlando Pirates midfielder Abbubakar Mobara has faith coach Kjell Jonevret will devise a sound strategy for challenging league matches with title-chasing duo Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mobara has of late stepped up as Pirates seek to finish in the top eight and win the Nedbank Cup which will make up for what has been a disappointing season.
Though they have long been out of contention for the championship The Buccaneers could prove to be a nuisance to the table-topping pair of Wits and Sundowns who they play in consecutive games this week.
“It has been a good week for me but the season is still on with two big games coming up and it is going to be difficult, but then the coach will provide the solutions for those games against Wits and Sundowns,” says Mobara.
“We need to keep focus for Thursday [against Wits] and Sunday [against Sundowns] to keep us in the top eight until the end of the season. We know that we cannot win the league but the top eight is what we want and that is what we are going to play for,” he notes.
Capable of playing as a central defender and his preferred right-back – positions that he played earlier in the season - the 23-year-old has embraced his role in central midfield.
On Saturday night he put in a man-of-the-match shift in a triangular central midfield set-up that also had Issa Sarr and Oupa Manyisa.
“Wherever the coach puts me I play because I believe in my abilities and I always try to do as the coach tells me. I know at first it was a difficult decision because I want to play right-back but I must understand that maybe the team needs me in the centre of the park and I have to respect the coach telling me to do a job for him and the team. That is all I am here to do, just to play,” says Mobara.
