Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo is hoping Prince Nxumalo can lead the line against Mamelodi Sundowns for 90 minutes in the absence of fellow targetman Nathan Paulse.
Ajax tonight visit the African champions at Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 19h30 minus Paulse through suspension.
Nxumalo, who hit 13 goals last term despite health complications, has struck five times this season, as has Paulse.
“With Nathan suspended, yes Aubrey [Funga] could be a back up to Prince, but there are other options,” Menzo told the club's website. “Yes, he [Funga] is not a true number 9, but he can also slot in as a false 9 or we can play two in attack…
“But, yes, hopefully Prince can play the 90 minutes if he doesn’t have to run too much after the ball, if not, we have to find another solution for that.
“I think for the team, when we have a particular weapon that is dangerous to the opponent, it means they have to concentrate on that part – but again a striker that can score 13/14 goals in a season like Prince did last season… it is so important for a team, every two or three chances is a goal.
“That is why every team is looking for a good striker.”
Menzo's side are 10th on the Absa Premiership table with 26 points from 24 matches - five points above the relegation zone.
Downs are fourth with 44 points from 22 fixtures, two points shy of log leaders Cape Town City.
