Chippa's Dan Malesela motivates troops for Maritzburg clash after Nedbank Cup showing

Posted: 25 April 2017 Time: 14:33

Chippa United coach Dan Malesela has stressed the importance of winning tonight's league game with Maritizburg United in Port Elizabeth amid the threat of relegation.

Chippa reached the Nedbank Cup semi-finals for the first time in their history with a 1-0 win over Jomo Cosmos on Saturday, and next face defending champions SuperSport United in the competition.

However, the Chilli Boys are only three points above the Absa Premiership drop zone with six matches left, raising the stakes for the upcoming clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (19h30).

"We are trying to regulate the balance between both the cup and the league,” Malesela told the club's website.

"Every game is important. As a professional you must have pride, you want to win every game, cup or league including friendly games you want to win.

"The progress in the cup might be a factor but I am not on the minds of the players. Everyone is aware how important is every game is for the club."

Meanwhile, 'Dance' was encouraged by the performance of some of his fringe players against Ezenkosi.

“I told them if they want to be considered for selection on Tuesday they have to show what they can offer on against Jomo Cosmos. Zeph [Mbokoma] did well to win himself man of the match, I would have chosen someone else.

" Vusi [Mncube] did well I hope he does not cramp. I was pleased with their performances and that of the team but we will have to improve going to the game against Maritzburg United."
