Ajax Cape Town midfielder Mark Mayambela has ample respect for Mamelodi Sundowns, but insists his side will take the game to the Brazilians at Loftus Stadium tonight.
Ajax need three points to alleviate their relegation concerns and try secure a top-eight finish, while African champions Sundowns are primarily battling for a second straight Absa Premiership title with Cape Town City, Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs.
The Urban Warriors are minus suspended hitman Nathan Paulse, but can draw encouragement from beating Downs 2-0 in the reverse fixture in Cape Town in November.
"They are never an easy team to play," says Mayambela. "They are the number one team in South Africa and Africa. They have a great coach in Pitso [Mosimane] who is a hard worker. They also have great players like Teko Modise. He still has it and brings experience in the team.
"We anticipate a difficult game. We also have a fairly good team with a lot of young players hungry to play and achieve. We are going to take the game to Sundowns. We are also not in a good position on the log. However, we coming to this game in the back of our mind with the two games that we played very well. We won one and drew one. There is confidence in the players, there is a good spirit and we are ready to fight for the three points."
'Proffesor' has been enjoying fine form of late, and attributes his resurgence to the support of his teammates and the technical team.
"Football is a game of opportunities. When you get one you must try to use it to the best of your abilities. You must do the hard work at training and leave everything to God. I am working hard and I am in a good space both off and on the field. I am also enjoying good support from the coach and my teammates and that brings confidence to me."
Kick-off is at 19h30.
