Willard Katsande: Kaizer Chiefs have to win remaining games

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande says the Glamour Boys have no choice but to win their remaining six games if they hope to annex the championship.

Chiefs, who exited the Nedbank Cup on penalties against SuperSport United on the weekend, tonight visit title rivals Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium knowing a victory could see them replace the Citizens at the summit.

Amakhosi have 45 points from 24 matches - a point behind City. Bidvest Wits (45 points from 22 games) and champions Mamelodi Sundowns (44 points from 22 games) are also in the hunt for league honours.

“We have no choice but to win all our remaining games,” Katsande told his club's website. “We lost in the Nedbank Cup game against SuperSport United on Saturday and because it was a cup game plus going into penalties meant it could go either way.

“We went straight back to the drawing board after the game on Saturday. We speak in one voice, and that’s winning all the remaining six games of the league.”

The Zimbabwean says Chiefs know what to expect from Eric Tinkler's side, who held them to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Johannesburg in November.

“We know City very well after playing them twice this season. They are a counter-attacking team and in that case it means we have to be disciplined to guard against their breaks.”

He added: “We are left with six games. We have to believe in ourselves.”

In team news, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune faces a late fitness test with a hip problem, left-back Sibusiso Khumalo has been ruled out with a thigh strain, while fellow defender Lorenzo Gordinho is suspended.
