Ajax Cape Town head coach Stanley Menzo has heaped praise on Grant Margeman, stating the rising star “makes the team perform a little better”.
The South African midfielder has made big waves in the PSL this term following some outstanding performances for the Urban Warriors, leading to his recent call up to the Amajita squad for the 2018 World Cup training camp in the Netherlands.
Margeman, who has two goals and three assists for Ajax this season, recently returned from a two-game suspension to help the Mother City outfit record a 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows in their most recent league outing, and Menzo feels it is not difficult to see the positive impact the teenager has on the team.
“Sometimes a player can give a team just what the team is lacking; we are talking about Grant. I won’t say he carries the team, no, but he gives something extra that makes the team perform a little better,” Menzo told Ajax’s official website ahead of Tuesday's clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the coach is well aware of overworking the 18-year-old, especially with his international commitments coming up.
Menzo continued: “We have to be careful with [Margeman], he is still young and he still has a lot to learn, but I think the greatest thing about him is that he is so natural.
“He is one of those players, you don’t have to give him too much information. He does a lot out of his own. I also see with the team, you can see that they respond with seeing Grant in the team: ‘Good, it’s good that you are here’.
“That is also a good sign, that the team accept him as a youngster, but also they take good care of him.”
