Bernard Parker hails Kaizer Chiefs' unity and mental strength

Posted: 20 April 2017 Time: 18:31

Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker believes their encouraging run of form has been influenced by the strength of togetherness that they have fostered as they seek to bring silverware to Naturena.

Since losing to Chippa United at the beginning of December Amakhosi have stepped on the accelerator non-stop up to now; avoiding defeat in 14 matches on the count.

Parker attributes this run of form to working towards a common goal. "Togetherness has been very important and that has been key for us," he says.

"The mood in camp has been unbelievable and even at training we are all sharing positive thoughts, we sharing thoughts from outside like Champions League and we really looking good at Naturena.

"It is just for us to stay up there mentally and I believe that this round is for us to be mentally prepared because physically and tactically in all aspects of football we are all looking good. It is now the mental part now, we need to stay together up there and keep the positive camaraderie. That way we will be strong."

Having now gone almost two years without winning silverware – the 31-year-old also reveals that they actually came together as players at the end of the first round of matches in a meeting aimed at finding ways of bringing trophies back to Naturena yet again.

"We had a discussion about not having gotten anything in the first round after we didn’t get any of the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout and we set goals for ourselves," explains Parker.

"So it is a must take for us to aim for both [league and Nedbank] because at Chiefs even a practice match is important. We have to take a game at a time and at the rate at which we are going with maximum focus, mental strength on and off the field, keeping calm and staying rested we are very much in it. We are fully focused on the Nedbank this weekend and we want to get into the next round."
