Jomo Sono singles out Buyani Sali and Thamsanqa Sangweni as Chippa dangermen

Jomo Sono says losing a good player like Buyani Sali is a serious blow for Chippa United coming into Saturday’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final against his Jomo Cosmos side.

Ezenkosi are the only non-PSL side still in the competition that serves as a CAF Confederation Cup qualifier.

The two teams lock horns at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday at 15h00.

The Chilli Boys will be without influential midfielder Sali, whose season has to come to a premature end after suffering a broken leg against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

“Losing Sali is a huge blow for them,” Sono tells “Him and their captain [Thamsanqa] Sangweni have a great understanding. But Sangweni is also good, he makes them tick.”

The Cosmos boss says he doesn’t believe the reason his team lost 2-0 to struggling Magesi FC in a NFD encounter on Wednesday was because their minds were already on the weekend cup game.

“Not really, we made only two mistakes against Magesi and they scored. But for 70 minutes it was one-way traffic, we had them on the back foot, you can ask anyone who was there,” Sono adds.

“We were not looking at the weekend game, we just lost. On Saturday if we can play the same way we played the second half against Magesi, we’ll have a good chance of going to the semi-finals.”
